How to Find Money for Small Business by Brian G.

It can be extremely tough getting Money for Small Business, especially in these times. More and more, business owners are trying non-traditional ways of getting the cash they need. The good news is there are plenty of different ways when looking for money for small business.

First of all, there are always the tried and true methods of finding money for small business. Some of these would include large and small banks, community credit unions, and the SBA. Now the SBA does not loan money for small business; however, they do guarantee the loan. This guarantee makes the loan much more attractive to the lending institutions. Of course you have to have a great credit score and the assets to back the loan. In today's business conditions these traditional techniques of getting money for small business are getting increasingly hard.
This brings us to some not so often considered methods of getting money for your small business. There are quite a few and with this article I would like to throw a few out there, and maybe get you to think of some on your own that you may have not considered.

First, one of my favorite approaches to get money for small business is one you have been advised against time and again. It is using friends and relatives to get money for your small business. I know, you should never think about it right? I disagree. As long as you treat the money for your small business as a real loan and have an actual loan agreement drafted by an attorney you should be fine. Just realize that your friends and relatives are counting on getting there money back and you should expect to pay it back no matter what. It has to be treated as a business agreement. Also, you have to be prepared to pay the money for your small business back, even if enterprise fails. Using friends and relatives can work out great because they are usually willing to give you attractive rates and terms that you may not get anywhere else.

A second way of getting money for business is using local and federal government grants. You will see lots of advertisements on television and online for courses that show you were to find grant money for small business, but most of these programs are rip-offs or you can find the information yourself with a little digging. You will have to do some searching but everything you need can be found for free.

Lastly, a really good system of getting money for small business is using peer-to-peer lending. Platforms such as Prosper.com are great for getting the cash you need for your business, but at the time of this writing Prosper has been halted by the government because they have charged that Prosper is acting as a banking institution. However, Prosper is just acting as a meeting place for lenders and borrowers. The way these programs work is after you sign up, you can request a loan and people bid on the right to lend you the money. The rate they are prepared to accept is determined by your credit rating and the story you tell about why you need the money for your small business. People hedge their risk by lending small amounts to several people. I am confident Prosper.com will be allowed to continue.

I Hope these methods have given you some ideas for your company. More significantly, I hope you have allowed yourself to consider more avenues to find money for small business.

If the company has a good business model it could try getting funds from an Angel, or perhaps even a VC firm.
